Laura Sebastián aka (*_*) Lau is a Spanish audiovisual artist and researcher.

My artwork is characterized by the expressive use of the loop, the repetition and the narrative effect of the palindrome. In all of my pieces I am the producer and the model at the same time.

I can dispense with muses and, as a result, the audiovisual experience turns into a narcissistic exercise. I exploit my exhibitionist character and in that way I expose doubly myself to the audience. I am the artist and the artefact, so I have the idea and I am the result of it.

What others have said about my work is:
“It is a good way to know about yourself”, “It’s so different to you... you don’t look like you”, “ How do you do that... and don’t be ashamed?”, “You scare me. Why do you mistreat your body in that way?”, “I can’t understand your work but I love it”, “I want the same thing to me. Can you do the same with me?”

What I said about my work:
“I don’t know why I do these kind of pieces, but I do know how satisfied I feel when I watch myself on the screen. That’s all. I am a little bit obsessed with my gaze and the gaze of the others when they watch me”.

In the meantime, I made up 101 theories to explain everybody what I am doing or what is my work about:
I have told I was very interested in Artistic Gender Studies. I have invented new funny similarities between some artists like Cindy Sherman or Shopie Calle and my own work. I have used Andy Warhol’s main artistic concepts like fame, hedonism and voyeurism in order to give a more interesting aura to my pieces. I have wanted to become a “cover girl”, celebrity, famous, artist and model. Actually, I never had an agent, manager or even money, and that’s why I decided to do it all on my own.

My grandmas are sure I have reached fame because I'm on the internet.

My pieces have been screened on international videoart festivals like VideoFest 2009 in Argentina, International Festival, Video Art ZONE 9. Chile, III International Festival of Video Art. Bang, in Barcelona.

If you google my name, you can find several sites which link myself with Live Cinema or Vjing pages because I have devoted many years understanding this audiovisual creative expression, its media and its creators. I tried to develop an historical framework to this Audiovisual movement in Spain in order to get my Advanced Studies Diploma.
Nowadays, I focus all my energy and attention on writing my PHD thesis in the same field.
